The National Education Association has changed its PAC name to "The NEA Fund for Children and Public Education." References to NEA-PAC below remain due to the timeframe to which they refer. In 1972, the NEA established the National Education Association Political Action Committee (NEA-PAC) as a separate fund to support its endorsed candidates for national office. NEA-PAC generated $4,896,927 in 1995-1996 and spent $5,031,657 during the 1996 election cycle. The breakdown in political contributions by NEA-PAC and AFT-COPE for the 2000 and 1998 election cycles are as follow:
